Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Type: Direct Hire
Work Location: Hybrid in Fort Worth, TX

This is a professional position responsible for the layout, planning, directing, training, coordinating, and design of distribution lines and/or substation facilities.  Assignments will include the completion of: calculations, construction drawings, contracts, technical specifications, design standards, as well as the application of those designs for the construction of distribution and/or substation facilities.  The successful candidate will possess a broad and deep understanding of engineering principles and practices, and the ability to apply that knowledge and experience to most aspects of project scope, schedule, budget, construction, and overall project completion.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
 
  • Perform electrical engineering analyses and design for distribution line layout and design along with substation design.
  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables.
  • Conduct/coordinate and/or assist in design review meeting for projects or as assigned.
  • Create and support construction contracts, material take-offs, material standards, and technical specifications.  This includes relevant Rural Utility Services (RUS) contracts, assembly units and design guides.
  • Create/develop drawing packages for bidding, construction, as-built, and submittal purposes.
  • Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or material selection
  • Coordinate construction activities with technical support and timely review of submittals.
  • Perform complex engineering analyses of the distribution system including voltage drop, fault current, sectionalizing, and motor start using Milsoft’s Windmil and Light Table, Aspen or similar programs.
  • Prepare Construction Work Plans or similar budgets for utilities.
  • Assist utilities as a distribution/substation engineering subject matter expert.
  • Prepare electrical, control, and relaying designs for substations.  Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to provide a complete design and construction project for substations.
  • Self-motivated capable of working independently or in a team toward the timely completion of assigned projects
  • Effective verbal and written communication including technical writing skills
  • Effectively communicate project scopes, budgets, and schedules
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets for projects
  • Develops training modules and initiatives at the directive of the Senior Engineering Manager.
  • Attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of development in regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to our functional area, including but not limited to, Standards of Conduct, NERC Reliability, the National Electric Safety Code, and the National Electric Code.
  • Provide technical direction to others, as required
  • Aide in the direction of work for others, as required
  • Serve as contact with construction field crews and project management on moderately complex projects
  • Provides support to business development or pursuit activities

Required Skills & Experience:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other similarly related engineering discipline
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Texas.
  • Basic knowledge of distribution and substation design
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, and Milsoft
  • Academic knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, including computer applications
  • Academic knowledge of field techniques for construction of distribution lines and substations
  • Academic knowledge of surveying techniques, practices, and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of safe working practices related to electric distribution lines and substations
  • A desire to work in the areas of distribution design
  • Experience:
  • Four (4) to eight (8) years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably related to electric distribution line and substation design.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong team player:  Accomplish tasks by working with others and recognizing how his/her decisions may impact the team and have a willingness to seek input from others
  • Quality:  Accomplish tasks with a high level of quality so rework and corrections are minimal or nonexistent
  • Time Management:  Have the ability to successfully plan and accomplish tasks within an established timeline
  • Computer proficiency in operating a personal computer and standard business office applications including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, SAG-10, LPile, Milsoft, and other related applications
  • Ability to analyze problems and develop effective solutions at both strategic and functional levels
  • Work independently with minimal direction as a highly motivated self-starter

Big Bonus Points if you Have:
 
  • A desire to learn Project Management techniques and/or Construction methods
  • Experience in other industries related to Electrical Engineering
  • Interest in or member of an industry organization (NSPE, IEEE, NESC, etc.)

A reasonable estimate of the Base Salary for this role is $110,000 - $175,000. The disclosed pay range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.  The compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, such as skills and experience levels.
