Job Description

Field Crew Chief (Commercial Land Surveying) Position Summary:

Uses a variety of surveying equipment including but not limited to GPS, total stations, and data collectors. Responsible for directing the daily activities of a two-to-three-person Field Survey Crew in the collection of on-the-ground survey data to produce various land surveys as directed by the Field Operations Manager. This work is performed outdoors year-round in various weather conditions. Requires the ability to move in various standing and sitting positions and the ability to lift 30 pounds frequently and up to 70 pounds occasionally (with assistance).  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Utilize assigned equipment & assigned field personnel to collect survey data in a timely manner.
  • Keep complete and accurate Field Notes documenting surveying work performed.
  • Keep complete and accurate Data Collector files documenting measurements observed with Total Station and GPS equipment.
  • Perform check calculations and other basic arithmetic to ensure accuracy of survey data and complete the field work.
  • Communicate job progress with Field Operations Manager and Project Manager.
  • Submit Daily Time Sheets to document personnel, time, and tasks performed.
  • Download and upload survey data – including field notes, data collector files and project photos, in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for possession, maintenance, and operation of all assigned equipment and work vehicle(s).
  • Communicate and coordinate equipment and maintenance needs with Field Operations Manager.
  • Ensure that work vehicle is stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Responsible for maximizing the performance of assigned field personnel.
  • Serve as an effective leader, motivator, and manager.
  • Communicates job-related performance of assigned field personnel with Field Operations Manager. 
  • Responsible for ensuring that Field Survey Crew represents the company in a positive, safe, ethical and professional manner in accordance with all Windrose/Exacta policies, procedures and work directives.
  • Responsible for resolving internal/external customer issues in a prompt and professional manner.  
  • Communicates and works with Field Operations Manager and/or Project Manager for resolution(s) when necessary. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, managers, clients, and other parties as related to Windrose/Exacta’s services & overall business. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to meet business needs in a positive, safe, ethical, and professional manner.  

Area Serviced  

Team members will service Central Texas and report to the office in Selma, TX 78154 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Commercial (Civil, Construction, Land Development) Land Surveying.
  • High school diploma/GED diploma required.
  • Valid Driver’s License and driving record that meets our insurance requirements 
  • Must be dependable and reliable regarding punctuality and attendance.
  • Must be an effective communicator, an assertive problem-solver, and a results-oriented team player.
  • Must have a relentlessly positive, flexible, do-whatever-it-takes attitude.
  • Must be poised under pressure and committed to excellent internal/external client service.
  • Experienced and Knowledge of basic field survey procedures, materials, and survey related equipment.
  • Experienced and Knowledge of Cat 1A, Cat 1B, Cat 6, ALTA, topographic, construction layout, as-built, tree, elevation certificates, and other surveys.
  • Knowledge of file transfer protocols and the basic operation of Windows and Android operating systems.
  • Knowledge of basic First Aid for outdoor/work-related injuries.
  • Able to operate, set up, and troubleshoot all survey related equipment and software.
  • Able to communicate survey work performed with: clear & accurate field notes, properly shot & coded data collector files, contextualized field photos, and daily time sheets.
  • Able to perform checks of field data to ensure accuracy.
  • Able to perform basic arithmetic and mathematical calculations.
  • Able to lead, manage, work on, and positively motivate a team.
  • Able to interpret deeds, plats, surveys, tax maps, ROW/utility plans, and other documents containing survey-related information.
  • Able to balance job workload & scope to accommodate demands of the job and meet or exceed client expectations.
