Type: Direct hire
Work Location: Houston, TX (NW / Beltway 8)

Job Overview:
We are hiring a Platting Drafter to support a growing platting department as part of a team restructure and internal promotion. This role is 100% production drafting focused specifically on subdivision plats.
You will work within established company templates and drafting standards and produce high-volume municipal plat deliverables with accuracy and consistency. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys heads-down drafting, thrives in a deadline-driven environment, and understands how to interpret title and easement information correctly.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft preliminary plats and final plats using established platting templates
  • Produce accurate layouts including:
  • Lot and block layouts
  • Bearings and distances
  • Curve tables
  • Dedications, easements, rights-of-way (ROW)
  • Notes, certifications, and jurisdiction formatting
  • Review title documentation and incorporate existing easements and restrictions correctly
  • Prepare plats to match city/county submittal standards, including formatting and labeling
  • Update drawings based on review comments, redlines, and resubmittals
  • Maintain drafting accuracy and completeness to reduce rework and avoid submittal delays
Typical Project Environment
  • High-volume plat production (multiple active plats in queue at any time)
  • Heavy municipal requirements and jurisdiction-specific nuances
Primary submission volume includes:
  • Harris County (majority of work)
  • Montgomery County
  • Chambers County
  • City of Houston
  • Drainage districts (ex: Katy area requirements)
Who You’ll Work With
  • The platting team (7–8 team members)
  • Internal stakeholders supporting plat production and drafting standards
  • This role is intended to be a production drafter position—not responsible for submittals, client coordination, or template creation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Drafting experience supporting survey platting or similar land development deliverables
  • Strong understanding of plat components including easements, ROW, boundary annotation, and labeling
  • Ability to work in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control mindset
  • Ability to work in-office consistently (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience drafting plats for Texas municipalities, especially Harris County and surrounding jurisdictions
  • Carlson drafting experience
  • Civil 3D drafting experience (with willingness to learn Carlson)
  • Familiarity reading and applying title documents and easement exhibits
What Success Looks Like:
  • Plats are produced accurately using company templates with minimal rework
  • Writing metes and bounds descriptions of the land being platted
  • Easements, restrictions, and boundary annotations are correct the first time
  • Work stays on pace with a high-volume queue
  • Deliverables meet municipal formatting standards and pass reviews efficiently
