Job Title: Assistant Controller
Type: Direct Hire, Permanent (Not open to 3rd party candidates or C2C. Sponsorship is not available)
Work Location: Hybrid in Durham, NC 27701 (In the office every Tuesday & Thursday)


We are looking for an Assistant Controller for our client in Durham. The right candidate for this role is an Accountant that has an active or inactive CPA that has strong working knowledge of ASC 606 Revenue Recognition, is highly proficient in NetSuite & Excel, and has worked in a SaaS environment.

This permanent, direct-hire position is hybrid in Durham, NC (in the office every Tuesday & Thursday).

Job Details:
This individual will play a key role in overseeing critical areas of the month-end close, customer contract reviews, technical accounting, and tax compliance. 

Responsibilities:
  • Lead critical aspects of the monthly close, including preparation and review of complex journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Oversee and perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and timely completion.
  • Analyze and review customer contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition under ASC 606.
  • Play a key role in year-end audits by preparing schedules and managing auditor requests.
  • Support tax compliance activities (sales/use, franchise, 1099, etc.) in partnership with external advisors and internal teams.
  • Drive process improvements and document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a NetSuite power user, optimizing workflows and reporting capabilities.
  • Apply AI tools to streamline and enhance accounting processes.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Legal, and Finance on revenue, billing, and contract-related matters.
  • Review team members’ work to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of accounting experience.
  • At least 2 years in a SaaS or technology environment preferred.
  • Are or was a Certified Public Accountant ( CPA ) - can be inactive.
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 Revenue Recognition and US GAAP.
  • Experience preparing for and supporting external audits.
  • Proficient in NetSuite and Excel; experience with system optimization or automation is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.

Compensation:
The Comp consists of a Salary ranging from $115,000 to $130,000 per year plus Equity. Also included is Benefits, unlimited PTO, and 401k. 

The compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, such as skills and experience levels.
