Senior Network/Systems Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Engineer for our North Austin client that's skilled in both network and systems infrastructure, to join our client's team responsible for their on-prem (data center) and cloud infrastructure environments. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in network architecture & engineering, network security, and cloud networking, along with some Windows systems experience.

This is a hybrid position (3 days onsite per week), therefore candidates must live in the Austin area to be considered.

This is a fantastic full-time, permanent position with our client, that offers growth & advancement and the ability to learn new things. It comes with a base salary, quarterly bonuses, full benefits, PTO, and 401k. Visa sponsorship is not available.
 
What you will be expected to do:
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting, planning, improving, and maintaining our client’s hybrid infrastructure (on-premise and cloud), with a strong focus on networking. You will play a pivotal role in analyzing and troubleshooting network, system, and application-related issues from a network perspective; and identify and resolve complex connectivity and performance challenges. Will utilize your expertise to enhance the overall reliability and resilience of client's infrastructure.
 
  1. Design, configure, and implement network architecture within on-prem (data center) and cloud (Azure) environments, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability.
  2. Configure, troubleshoot, and support Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.
  3. Manage of Network Resources, Security tools, Storage, and Systems tools for on-prem and cloud infrastructure environments.
  4. Network Connectivity: provide support for network connectivity or related network issues.
  5. Interpret and implement company’s information technology and security policies, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  6. Set up, test, and manage disaster recovery capabilities.
  7. Coordinate implementation and deployment of security and performance upgrades as necessary.
  8. Participate in system security, vulnerability remediation, backup & recovery.
  9. Performance analysis, proactive troubleshooting, and capacity planning.
  10. Maintain, provision, troubleshoot, and support VM's and Servers infrastructure.
  11. Collaborate with team members and other teams to solve issues and come up with network & systems solutions.
  12. Create and maintain documentation of the network and system environments.
  13. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. 

Skills, experience, & abilities you need to have:
  • 5-6+ years of experience in network engineering or network/systems engineering, preferably with a focus on network architecture.
  • Extensive experience with LAN/WAN/WLAN networking.
  • Strong working familiarity with Cisco NX-OS and IOS.
  • Hands-on experience configuring Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • L2 networking experience: VLANs/VLAN tagging, Spanning Tree, Ether-channel.
  • L3 networking experience: IP Subnetting, IP routing, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, GLBP.
  • Experience with physical layer technologies – Gig/10G Ethernet, CAT6 & Fiber cabling.
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst (3750 / 3850 / 4500 / 9300), Cisco Nexus 7k/9k, ASA firewalls, and Firepower FTD’s.
  • Experience with network security – Firewalls / ACLs, VPN services, Cisco Firepower, Cisco Identity Services Engineer, Cisco AMP (Cisco Secure Endpoint), Cisco Umbrella, and Cisco IronPort (Cisco Email Security) knowledge / experience.
  • Strong in fundamentals of TCP/IP protocol suites and IP routing protocols
  • Experience installing, configuring, provisioning, supporting, and troubleshooting Windows Server (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019), Active Directory, Exchange Server, SQL Server, and VMware
  • Experience working with a variety of network monitoring tools such as: SolarWinds NPM, SAM, NCM.
  • Are a team player that can collaborate with others, as well as have the ability to work independently when needed.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills and ability to pivot quickly when needed.
  • Honest, dependable, respectful of others and carry high ethical standards.
  • Dedication to exceeding quality standards and providing services of the highest caliber.

Bonus points for:
  • Hyperconvergence experience.
  • Palo Alto and/or Fortinet experience.
  • Knowledge & experience with VMware vSphere 6.x and 7.x.
  • PowerShell or other scripting experience.
  • Nutanix AHV and Prism experience.
  • Any Cisco, Microsoft, and VMware Certifications.

Pay:
A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $120,000 to $135,000 per year. The compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case, such as skills and experience levels.
